The Black Church Is Watching Evangelical Chickens Coming Home to Roost

Have you been following what’s going on in some Evangelical circles? Overt Evangelical white supremacists have established significant platforms, and they’ve gathered large social media followings. Some of them are publicly espousing views such as holocaust denialism, the Hamitic curse, and the inferiority of non-white races.

Their ascendancy has prompted other Evangelicals to publicly oppose them. Dr. James White will be engaging in an official moderated debate with a noted white supremacist. The virulently racist man that Dr. White is debating is amassing popularity as an Evangelical podcaster and theologian. The topic of debate will be – Can the Holy Spirit sanctify a Black person as much as a white person? Yes, that’s the actual debate topic. This is not a joke.

Dr. White should not be commended or applauded for taking the affirmative in this debate. The question of the debate is absurd on its face, and it shouldn’t even be entertained as serious inquiry. Furthermore, Dr. White, and those of his ilk, are complicit in emboldening and coddling the very ideology he’s now attempting to refute. On Wednesday 5/14 at 4PM PST, I’ll be going live to press my claim. Not only will I speak for myself, but I’ll also discuss the Black Church’s historic reaction to American Evangelicalism’s complicity with, and perpetuation of white supremacy.
