Paula White and the Problem of Discernment in the Black Church

How did this happen? She rose to prominence within religious circles on the back of the Black Church. After preaching at Black women’s conferences and preaching around the country at Black churches, she built a small empire for herself.

She purchased airtime on the Word Network (An “urban” Christian television network). She sold her books and CDs to largely Black audiences. She became a household name in Black churches all across the country.

Now, she’s a Trump supporting polarizing political figure. She’s aligned with the very administration that is actively seeking to abolish the Civil Rights Act. She’s aligned with the same administration that’s trying to whitewash history.

She effectively used the Black Church to gain wealth and political influence. Once she acquired it, she turned against the very people that supported her the most.

This would’ve NEVER happened had we been more discerning on the front end. She gave herself away theologically WAAAAAY before she gave herself away politically.
