The Black Church Can Learn A Lot From the Indigenous Church

African Americans and Indigenous Americans have a shared history. We both know what it’s like to be terrorized and treated inhumanely by the white supremacist “machine”. We both know what it feels like to be victims of governmental theft; whether it’s the theft of our bodies or our land.

In-spite of the odds, we’ve both endured as a lasting testimony to the strength and ingenuity of our people. The parallels are clear. African Americans and Indigenous Americans can hum the same tune; just in a different key.

Since the historical similarities abound, I’ve often wondered if similarities exist between the legacy of the Black Church and the legacy of the Indigenous Church. I’ve searched for scholarship on this question, but I haven’t found any.
