The Black Church and Trump’s S0-called Big Beautiful Bill

TRUMP’S SO-CALLED “BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL” IS PREDATORY. WE MUST PROTECT THE PREY!

Donald Trump is a billionaire; he ascended to his 2nd term on the back of a billionaire. After taking office, he surrounded himself by billionaires (Vivek Ramaswamy, Linda McMahon, Tilman Fertitta, Charles Kushner, Warren Stephens). It’s no surprise that his newest piece of legislation benefits the wealthiest among us. Trump has never been a champion for the “little-guy.” Only the most seduced supporter believed he would be.

Some of the BBBA’s key pieces will take effect later this year, while others will not be implemented until well after the midterm elections. Black pastors and churches don’t have long to think about how to mitigate harm this legislation will inevitably cause many of our members. How can we ensure our churches are “solution and safety centers” for those that will be victimized by this law?

Sadly, when America catches a cold, Black folks get pneumonia. For the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized, this bill is more than a cold; it’s a viral infection.
