Debunking Lies, Myths, and Caricatures Regarding the Black Church

THEY’RE SHOOTING AT THE BLACK CHURCH… WITHOUT REALIZING THAT THEY’RE FIRING BLANKS…

One of the reasons I’m an advocate for popularizing Black Church studies is because of all the misinformation out there surrounding the Black Church. I firmly believe that if people would actually pick up a book, rather than lazily rely on information provided by their favorite Black social media skeptic, they’d easily see through the caricatures and blatant misconceptions.

As an apologist, I firmly believe that one cannot be an effective urban apologist without some knowledge of the history and legacy of the Black Church. Urban apologetics requires engaging with Black Religious Identity Cults (BRICs). These groups actively recruit new converts by making false claims and engaging in historical revisionism regarding the Black Church.

Correcting the record could potentially prevent someone from leaving the faith over lies they heard about the Black Church. In today’s episode of Black Church Chats, I’m debunking the following myths:

👉🏾The Black Church has never done anything for Black people

👉🏾All Black pastors are only after money and material gain

👉🏾Christianity makes Black people docile and better slaves

👉🏾The Black Church is heretical and beholden to the prosperity gospel

👉🏾The Black Church is anti-intellectual and beholden to emotionalism

Etc.
